SOME THOUGHTS ON LAUGHING HORSE TRAINING

  • "There is always something to learn from every situation, so I am always learning from students, teachers and the horses.   I try to find the best ways to apply what I learn in fun, safe, easy-to-teach steps, and to share it with those who have an interest."

    C.S. Noel, Laughing Horse Training

  • "Noel brought my 4 and 5 year old geldings in from pasture, where they had been since they were young colts, and taught them everything from the ground up.  They are now pure pleasure to handle and ride."

    Carol A., Clayton, CA

  • "My young horse, Macy, had 60 days under saddle, and a beautiful temperament.  I thought he would make a great carriage horse too, but didn't know where to begin.  Noel's Laughing Horse Training program had him nicely started in harness in about 6 weeks.  It's great to have a variety of activities to share with my horse."

    Penny N., Gilroy, CA

  • "I've ridden and driven my gelding for years, but never jumped this particular horse before.  Noel worked with him, lunging and free jumping, in a way that taught him what a jumping horse needs to expect.  Now both my horse and I can be confident when I am in the saddle over fences."

    Mary W., Pebble Beach, CA

  • "Noel has boundless energy for getting it right.  She knows how to break lessons down into easy to learn pieces so both horse and rider can have fun and be successful."

    Steve M., Clayton, CA

"Thanks to the many inspirational horsemen and horsewomen who   have helped and influenced me throughout my life with horses." -- C.S. Noel

Captain John Franks - John Franks Riding Academy:  Captain Franks was a traditional old world horseman who learned his craft in the legendary Hungarian cavalry.  He escaped from the Nazi's, and came to America by boat with nothing to his name except his little pony Coco.  He built up a riding school with a barn that was home to scores of pleasure and show horses as well as dozens of treasured school horses.  Over the decades he taught hundreds of school kids how to ride hunter-jumpers.  His life was dedicated to passing his knowledge on to future generations.

Gertrude Hendrix - Polycreek Farm:  Miss Hendrix is 102 now, and bred & trained Saddlebred riding and driving horses during the heyday of Saddleseat competition in the midwest during the 1930's and 40's.  She is an inspirational teacher, who shared the lore of breeding, training, riding, and driving, as well as a vast knowledge of animal husbandry and farm management techniques.

Joe & Marilyn Tacker:  Joe is a both a fine horseman and an International Dog Show judge.  His affinity for animals is infectious, and is mirrored by his wife, Marilyn.  Their friendship and mentoring opened doors into the dressage and driving world.

Mary Wiltse:  A multi-dimensional horsewoman, Mary has successfully pursued excellence in equestrianism throughout her career with widely ranging types of horses and activities.  Sharing daily rides with Mary across the years, in the arena and over hill and dale, is what riding is all about.

All the many world-class Managers, Trainers & Clinicians - Pebble Beach Equestrian Center:  Through the decades, PBEC has been an epicenter of talent including horseworld legends, Dick & Sheila Collins, Jeff Moore, Rodney Schriver, Gene & Tish Lewis, Cindy Austin, Trudy Exton, Derek & Bea di Grazia.  Together they perpetuated a facility that provided a smorgasbord of opportunity and learning in a multitude of disciplines including Hunter/Jumper, Three Day Eventing, Dressage, and Driving.  Tim Postel continues this fine tradition at Pebble Beach today.

Charles de Kunnfy & Richard Williams:  There are no finer teachers for the education of a rider in the classical dressage tradition.

Kay Hitch:  Kay's approach to horses and riders is both intuitive and down to earth at the same time, an invaluable asset to the many hunter/jumper, 3-Day and hunt club riders she trains.  She's brilliant at leading her students to understand how to use their personal strengths to give their horses the comfort and security they need to perform at their best.

Raye & Sharon Lochert - Raye Lochert Horsemanship:  The talent and generousity of Raye and Sharon knows no bounds.  Raye's skill and timing make him an unparalleled trainer for both the horse and rider.  His step-by-step lessons and clinics, using conditioned response training techniques, open up whole new insights into working with horses.
